Born in Birecik in 1970 to a family of Kurdish origin and raised in İzmit, Göçer started school at four and graduated high school by 1985. He won a scholarship to Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, then enrolled at Istanbul University State Conservatory's Singing Department in 1988, working as a contractor for the State Opera and Ballet while practicing medicine. From November 2012 to May 2014 he served as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador for Turkey. After 25 years of maintaining both professions, he retired from his work as a physician in 2017, the music career outlasting the medical one.
