Enzo Anselmo Giuseppe Maria Ferrari was born 18 February 1898 in Italy, became a racing driver, then founded Scuderia Ferrari to field Grand Prix teams. He later launched the Ferrari automobile marque and led it through decades of Formula One dominance: under him the team claimed nine World Drivers' Championships and eight Constructors' titles. The British called him il Drake after Francis Drake, noting how his small company kept winning against richer rivals.
