Biography

About

Theodor Geisel picked up the "Dr. Seuss" name as an undergraduate at Dartmouth, carried it to Oxford, then left in 1927 to draw cartoons for Vanity Fair and Life and ads for bug spray. His first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, came out in 1937. World War II pulled him into political cartoons and Army animation work. Afterward he returned to children's books and spent four decades producing the run that defined him: The Cat in the Hat and How the Grinch Stole Christmas in '57, Green Eggs and Ham in '60, The Lorax in '71, on through Oh, the Places You'll Go! in 19…
