About this person

Born Ogbuagu Alban Uzoma Nwapa on 26 August 1957, he straddled two worlds - Nigeria and Sweden - before carving out a third in Europe's dance music explosion. He built his own imprint, Dr. Records, and spent the late 80s and early 90s threading reggae's lilt through the four-on-the-floor grid of Eurodance. In 1992 "It's My Life" broke through globally, riding the wave of the album One Love and planting his sound in clubs from Berlin to Tokyo. The catalogue that followed cemented him as one of the era's most commercially successful crossover acts, a producer who made the dancefloor speak in patois and programmed drums.
