About

Diana Frances Spencer was born into British nobility in 1961 and grew up on the Sandringham estate, near the royal family. Working as a nursery teacher's assistant in 1981, she became engaged to Charles, eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II; their wedding at St Paul's Cathedral that July made her Princess of Wales. The couple had two sons, William and Harry, but the marriage suffered from incompatibility and extramarital affairs, leading to separation in 1992 and divorce in 1996.
