Dennis Keith Rodman was born May 13, 1961, and described as shy and introverted through his early years - an unhappy childhood that left him contemplating suicide in 1993. He played small forward before shifting to power forward, anchoring defenses for the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and Dallas Mavericks with a rebounding mastery the NBA website calls "arguably the best rebounding forward in NBA history". Seven NBA All-Defensive First Team honors and two Defensive Player of the Year awards followed, along with five championship rings. After the 1993 crisis he reinvented himself as "the Worm", a "bad boy" who dyed his hair in artificial colors, clashed with officials, and showed up to promote his 1996 autobiography Bad as I Wanna Be in a wedding dress. The Pistons retired his No. 10 jersey on April 1, 2011; he entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame that year and made the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in October 2021.
