Daniele Ganser was born on 29 August 1972 and worked as a senior researcher at the ETH Zurich Center for Security Studies, gaining attention in 2005 with NATO's Secret Armies: Operation GLADIO and Terrorism in Western Europe. He led the Swiss branch of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas from 2006 to 2012 and taught History and Future of Energy Systems at the University of St. Gallen starting in 2012. His public doubts about the September 11 attacks ended that university employment in 2017. Americanist Michael Butter now calls him the best-known conspiracy theorist in the German-speaking world.
