Queen Consort of Hungary and Holy Roman Empress Consort
She was queen in three kingdoms across a single lifetime — Hungary, Germany, Sicily — and ruled the last of those as regent for eight years while her second husband claimed an empire.
Born in 1179, the eldest daughter among nine children of Alfonso II of Aragon and Sancha of Castile, Constance married into power twice. The first marriage made her queen of Hungary and Croatia. The second brought her to Germany and Sicily, where she became Holy Roman empress. When her husband left to secure his imperial claim, she held Sicily as regent from 1212 to 1220. She died in 1222, having spent much of her adult life governing territories that weren't hers by birth.
