King of Norway 1814, King of Denmark 1839-1848
He was king of two countries in one lifetime — Norway for a few months in 1814, Denmark for nearly a decade until his death in 1848.
Christian Frederick was born on 18 September 1786, the eldest son of Hereditary Prince Frederick, himself a younger son of King Frederick V. That distance from the throne closed when his cousin Frederick VI produced no male heirs, making Christian heir presumptive from 1808. In 1814 he became King of Norway as Christian Frederick, a reign that lasted only months. Twenty-five years later he ascended the Danish throne as Christian VIII in 1839. He ruled Denmark until his death on 20 January 1848.
