The daughter Grace Kelly left behind: born a film star's child and raised in a palace, she stood one birth away from a throne twice, then watched the crown pass to her brother and finally to his twins.

Biography

About

Caroline Louise Marguerite Grimaldi was born 23 January 1957, the first child of Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, and Grace Kelly. For a year she was heir to the Monegasque throne, until her brother Albert arrived in 1958. She later married Prince Ernst August, becoming Princess of Hanover. When Albert ascended in 2005, she returned to the line of succession as heir presumptive — a position she held for nine years until his twins, Gabriella and Jacques, were born in 2014. She remains the elder sister of a reigning prince and aunt to the future sovereign.

It wouldn’t bother me at all if I weren’t Princess Caroline of Monaco. I prefer to be at home with my husband and children than attacked by photographers.
