About this person
Born in Madrid in 1994, Carlos Sainz Jr. arrived with rally royalty in his blood - his father won two World Rally Championships. He climbed the junior ladder through karting and Formula Renault, claimed the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2014, and entered F1 with Toro Rosso in 2015 alongside a teenage Max Verstappen. A mid-season swap to Renault in 2017 began a string of moves: McLaren in 2019, where he finally stood on a podium in Brazil, then Ferrari in 2021 to replace Sebastian Vettel. His first win came at Silverstone in 2022, followed by Singapore the next year and Australia and Mexico City in 2024. When Ferrari signed Lewis Hamilton for 2025, Sainz landed at Williams on a contract running through at least 2027, securing two more podiums in Azerbaijan and Qatar.
