A malevolent unicorn traps children inside a warped 1990s kids' show pastiche - and Keegan-Michael Key voices the nightmare host. Casper Kelly's postmodernist horror-comedy twists the Barney template into something genuinely unsettling.

About this person
Kelly and co-writer Jamie King built the film around a surreal premise: children stuck in a children's television hellscape, trying to outrun their saccharine captor. Cristin Milioti, Delaney Quinn, Patton Oswalt, Clint Howard, Michael Shannon, and Topher Grace rounded out the ensemble. It premiered at Sundance's Midnight section on January 22, 2026, then hit theaters that August through Roadside Attractions and Saban Films. On a shoestring $3 million budget, it pulled $22 million and earned mostly positive notices - a tidy return for a film that dared to make childhood nostalgia feel dangerous.
