He moves through genres like a genre doesn't exist - funk, soul, doo-wop, reggae, pop - and every single lands. A three-octave voice, a band called the Hooligans, and a run of hits so consistent that "Uptown Funk" alone defined a decade on Billboard.

About this person

Peter Gene Hernandez grew up in Honolulu impersonating Elvis Presley as a child, then moved to Los Angeles in 2003 with a musical career in mind. He made his name first as a songwriter and co-founder of the production team the Smeezingtons, then broke through as a recording artist in 2009 on B.o.B's "Nothin' on You". His first three albums - Doo-Wops & Hooligans (2010), Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), and 24K Magic (2016) - delivered hit after hit: "Just the Way You Are", "Grenade", "Locked Out of Heaven", "When I Was Your Man", "24K Magic", "That's What I Like". In 2021 he formed Silk Sonic with Anderson .Paak and released An Evening with Silk Sonic, which included the number-one single "Leave the Door Open". Two massive duets followed in 2024 - "Die with a Smile" with Lady Gaga and "APT." with Rosé - before his first solo album in ten years, The Romantic (2026), arrived with "I Just Might", his first song to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100. He has sold over 150 million records, racked up 16 Grammys, and became the only artist to surpass 150 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
