Head of state (1822-1891)
José Bruno Carranza Ramírez was a Costa Rican physician, journalist and politician who served as the 7th President of Costa Rica from April to August 1870. Appointed with the title of Temporary Head of the Republic, he came to power in the coup d'état of 27 April 1870 that deposed President Jesús Jiménez. He resigned three months later under military pressure by General Tomas Guardia Gutierrez.
