About

May co-founded Queen in 1970 with Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor (he'd played with Taylor in Smile at university), and bassist John Deacon joined a year later. The band broke globally with A Night at the Opera in 1975, and through the mid-'70s and '80s they filled the world's largest venues — Live Aid in 1985 remains a high-water mark. May wrote fist-in-the-air anthems like "We Will Rock You" and "Who Wants to Live Forever", his Red Special guitar producing a sound no one else could match.
