Born 20 July 1996 in Melbourne, Ben Simmons is the son of Dave Simmons, an American who played pro ball in Australia. He left Box Hill Senior Secondary College for Montverde Academy in Florida, then spent one season at LSU - named a consensus first-team All-American and the USBWA National Freshman of the Year despite the Tigers missing the NCAA tournament. The Philadelphia 76ers took him first overall in the 2016 draft. A broken right foot cost him his rookie season, but he came back to win Rookie of the Year in 2018 and earn three All-Star selections. After the 2020-21 season he held out, forcing a trade to the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets bought out his contract in February 2025, and he signed with the Clippers.
