Eldest daughter of Octavia Minor and Mark Antony
She was born into the most dangerous family in Rome — niece to Augustus, daughter of Mark Antony — and her bloodline would eventually put her grandson Nero on the throne.
Antonia the Elder was born in late 39 BC, the eldest daughter of Octavia the Younger and Mark Antony, one of the three men who ruled Rome as Triumvir. That made her Augustus's niece, positioned at the center of the empire's founding generation. She married Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, a union that carried the Julian and Antonian lines forward. Through her son, she became the paternal grandmother of Nero, the emperor whose reign would close the dynasty her uncle built.
