Biography

About

Born in Frankfurt in 1929, Annelies Marie Frank moved with her family to Amsterdam in 1934 after Hitler rose to power. When Germany occupied the Netherlands in May 1940, the family was trapped; two years later, as Jewish persecution intensified in July 1942, they went into hiding in concealed rooms behind a bookcase in the building where her father Otto worked. For two years she documented their everyday life in the attic. The Gestapo arrested them on 4 August 1944. Anne and her sister Margot were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen in November 1944, where they died of typhus in Februa…
