Born in a Ghanaian refugee camp to Liberian parents, Davies arrived in Canada at five and became a citizen at sixteen. A month later, in June 2017, he debuted for the national team as its youngest-ever player, then became the youngest scorer at a Gold Cup and the first player born in the 2000s to score at a senior international tournament. Bayern Munich paid a record MLS fee to sign him from Vancouver in January 2019. By 2019-20 he was Bundesliga Rookie of the Season and part of a treble-winning side that swept the league, Champions League, and domestic cup. He captains Canada now, scored their first-ever men's World Cup goal in 2022, and in February 2025 signed with Bayern through 2030. The UN refugee agency made him its first soccer ambassador - the first Canadian in any field to hold the role.
