Biography

About

Alfred Newman was a music prodigy who arrived in Hollywood after ten years on Broadway and became one of the first composers to write original scores during the industry's Golden Age. Between the 1930s and his death in 1970, he composed music for Wuthering Heights, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, All About Eve, The Diary of Anne Frank, and How the West Was Won, among more than 200 films. He won nine Academy Awards from 45 nominations, and his family would go on to collect 92 nominations across music categories, making them the most-nominated family in Oscar history.
