Biography

About

Alfred Joseph Hitchcock started as a title card designer in 1919, worked his way to directing, and by 1927 had shaped the thriller genre with The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog. His British work—The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, the first British talkie Blackmail—earned him international notice, and in 1939 producer David O. Selznick brought him to Hollywood. There he built a run of hits: Rebecca won Best Picture in 1940, followed by Suspicion, Shadow of a Doubt, Notorious, Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds. He directed over 50 features across six decades, racked up…
