About

Albano Antonio Carrisi was born 20 May 1943 and entered Italy's Sanremo Giovani competition in 1965. He built a career singing pop, rock, and Italo disco with operatic head voice, avoiding falsetto, and by the 1980s was performing alongside Romina Power — they won Sanremo outright in 1984. The professional and personal partnership with Power lasted into the 1990s and amplified his visibility far beyond Italy. He has competed at Sanremo 15 times, tying the all-time record with four other artists. In 2016 Albania granted him citizenship, citing his ties to the country and a given name that echoe…
