Albano Antonio Carrisi was born 20 May 1943 and entered Italy's Sanremo Giovani competition in 1965. He built a career singing pop, rock, and Italo disco with operatic head voice, avoiding falsetto, and by the 1980s was performing alongside Romina Power — they won Sanremo outright in 1984. The professional and personal partnership with Power lasted into the 1990s and amplified his visibility far beyond Italy.
