Akina Nakamori was born 13 July 1965. She won the 1981 season of Star Tanjō! and released her debut single "Slow Motion" to moderate success, peaking at number thirty on the Oricon chart. Her follow-up "Shōjo A" peaked at number five and sold over 390,000 copies, pushing her into the national conversation. Her second album Variation hit number one on the Oricon Weekly Albums Chart and stayed there for three weeks. She moved into acting in 1985 with the romance film Ai, Tabidachi. After a four-year hiatus from 2010 to 2014, she returned with two compilation albums - All Time Best: Original and All Time Best: Utahime Cover - both commercially successful.
