Born and raised in Edogawa, Tokyo, Kamenashi signed with Johnny & Associates at 12 and was drafted into KAT-TUN as co-lead vocalist in 2001. Four years later, the temporary side project Shūji to Akira released "Seishun Amigo" - it topped the year's sales chart. He built a parallel career in television, landing lead roles in multiple dramas while the group ran under what became Starto Entertainment. In 2025, when his contract came up, he announced he was leaving.
