A. R. Rahman is read about 1,969 times a day, in 62 languages.
A typical day, 30 days to 15 October 2026
The middle day of the days counted, so one week of news cannot move it. The line under it is the last 390 days, one point a day.
Something wrong? Two Oscars, two Grammys, a BAFTA, and a Golden Globe - the haul that followed "Jai Ho" and Slumdog Millionaire in 2008 made A. R. Rahman the most decorated Indian composer alive. His film scores, from the early Tamil breakout Roja to Mani Ratnam's Bombay, rewired what Indian cinema could sound like.

It needs a lot of courage to pick up someone from another country and support him. When I first heard from Andrew Lloyd Webber in 1999, he praised my work.
The reason I love 'Slumdog' is because the music is all world cultures, all celebrating. In India, I know people feel other film scores [of mine] are closer to their hearts.
I think musicians here [India] get ripped off.

Born A. S. Dileep Kumar in 1967, Rahman launched his film-scoring career in the early 1990s with Roja, working out of his own Panchathan Record Inn studio. A string of Tamil hits followed - Bombay, Kaadhalan, Thiruda Thiruda, Gentleman - earning him the nickname "Isai Puyal" (Musical Storm) and later "Mozart of Madras." His 2008 score for Slumdog Millionaire swept the 81st Academy Awards, taking Best Original Score and Best Original Song for "Jai Ho," then added two Grammys in 2010. By then he had amassed seven National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and eighteen Filmfare Awards South. India gave him the Padma Bhushan in 2010; Time named him one of the world's most influential people in 2009. In 2017 he directed and wrote Le Musk, and in 2024 Trinity Laban made him Honorary President.
