Zuzana Čaputová was born Zuzana Strapáková on 21 June 1973. She became known through a ten-year battle against a toxic landfill planned for Pezinok, the town where she lived - a fight that ended in her favor and earned her the 2016 Goldman Environmental Prize. Three years later she ran for president. She won the 2019 election with 58% of the vote in the run-off, taking office at 45 as Slovakia's fifth president, its first female head of state, and its youngest ever. She served one term and did not run again in 2024.
