Zheng Qinwen broke through where only Li Na had gone before - top 5 in the world, gold around her neck in Paris. At 21, she became the first Asian player to win Olympic singles gold in tennis, then chased it with a run to the Australian Open final and two more titles before year's end.

About this person
Born in October 2002, Zheng turned pro and climbed quietly until 2023, when she took Palermo and then her home tournament in Zhengzhou. The next year she reached the Australian Open final, won Olympic gold in Paris - the first for any Asian singles player in tennis - and defended Palermo before adding Tokyo's Pan Pacific Open. She closed 2024 as runner-up at the WTA Finals and by June 2025 had cracked the top 5, joining Li Na as the only Chinese women to do it. Five titles, world No. 4, and the rise still going.
