A group of Shiite elders have considered him one of the influential people in the growth of Islam. Shaykh Tusi, while counting about 3300 narrators and companions of Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad aṣ-Ṣādiq, has mentioned Zakaria al-Ash'ari.
