Born 27 August 1982 in Ashikaga, Tochigi, Tejima entered the entertainment industry as a gravure idol - the distinctly Japanese genre of photogenic models who appear in magazines, photobooks, and on screen. She expanded into tarento work, the catch-all term for television personalities who show up on talk shows and variety programs, and eventually took acting roles. Her representation shifted from To-Win to Platinum Production as her career broadened across the overlapping circuits of Japanese pop media.
