A South African who spent fourteen years in Shenzhen and turned the camera on what he saw: Chinese politics, daily life, the friction between system and street. The perspective draws viewers who want the ground truth, or at least one foreigner's read on it.

Winston Frederick Sterzel built a following under the name SerpentZA by documenting life in China from an outsider's vantage. He moved to Shenzhen, Guangdong, and stayed for fourteen years, long enough to develop a lens that mixed familiarity with distance. His videos parse Chinese politics and the textures of ordinary existence in a country that fascinates and frustrates in equal measure. The work is rooted in personal experience, which gives it texture and limits it at once.
