Born 24 May 1980 in New Zealand, Trubridge built a career around the body's edge - how far down a human can sink before the ocean wins. In 2010 he became the first person to break 100 metres unassisted by fins, a threshold that redefined what seemed survivable. That same year he claimed world records in both free immersion and constant weight without fins, the sport's most unforgiving categories. He held free immersion until 2018, constant weight without fins until 2025. The records moved on, but the 100-metre crossing stays his.
