Wilhelm Wassmuss was a German diplomat and spy who operated in Persia, as well as taking part in the Niedermayer-Hentig Expedition, known as "Wassmuss of Persia". According to British versions of history, he "attempted to foment trouble for the British" in the Persian Gulf during World War I.
