About this person
Vincent was born in Huesca and served as deacon in the Church of Zaragoza. When Emperor Diocletian's wave of Christian persecutions reached Spain, Vincent was martyred around 304. That death secured him a place as the protomartyr of Spain and made him patron saint of Lisbon, Algarve, and Valencia. The Catholic Church, Anglican Communion, and Eastern Orthodox Church all mark his feast on 22 January, with the Orthodox adding a second commemoration in November.
