Early 4th century Roman emperor
A Roman emperor who lasted barely a year — caught in the machinery of the Tetrarchy, killed by the usurper he couldn't stop.
Flavius Valerius Severus rose to emperor in 306 as part of the Tetrarchy, sharing the western empire with Constantine I. Most of his reign was consumed by civil war against Maxentius, a usurper who had seized power in Italy. By September 307, Maxentius had him killed and claimed Italy for himself. Severus II left behind little more than a footnote in the chaos that marked the Tetrarchy's collapse.
