Born January 29, 1945, Selleck served as an infantryman in the California Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973, reaching sergeant, before landing the role that would define him: Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. (1980–88), which earned him five Emmy nominations and one win in 1984. He parlayed that into a film career that included Three Men and a Baby (1987), then the biggest box-office hit of the year, and its sequel three years later. Recurring turns as Dr. Richard Burke on Friends and nine Jesse Stone TV films based on Robert B. Parker's novels kept him visible between 2005 and 2015. In 2010 h…
