Born January 29, 1945, Selleck served as an infantryman in the California Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973, reaching sergeant, before landing the role that would define him: Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. (1980–88), which earned him five Emmy nominations and one win in 1984. He parlayed that into a film career that included Three Men and a Baby (1987), then the biggest box-office hit of the year, and its sequel three years later.
