Calaway worked small Texas promotions and a forgettable WCW run before landing in the WWF in 1990, where he reinvented himself as The Undertaker — a funerary, supernatural "Deadman" that won Best Gimmick five years running. The character became WWE's longest-tenured anchor, surviving 30 years by evolving: he shifted to a biker persona called "American Badass" in 2000, then brought the Deadman back in 2004 with traces of both identities blurred together.
