About this person
Svetlana Alexandrovna Alexievich was born on 31 May 1948 in Belarus. Working as an investigative journalist, essayist, and oral historian, she writes in Russian and developed a method: polyphonic books assembled from real testimonies rather than traditional narrative. In 2015 the Nobel committee awarded her the Literature Prize "for her polyphonic writings, a monument to suffering and courage in our time." She became the first writer from Belarus to receive it.
