About this person
Simone Giertz taught herself robotics while studying advertising in Stockholm, launched her YouTube channel in 2013, and posted her first robot video in August 2015. The tooth-brushing helmet, "The Breakfast Machine", and "The Wake-up Machine" each hit a million views by late 2015, earning her the nickname "Queen of Shitty Robots". A lipstick robot in February 2016 caught Adam Savage's eye and brought her to California to work on Tested.com; she appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and gave a TED talk. Diagnosed with a noncancerous brain tumor in April 2018, she posted through two rounds of treatment and shifted toward useful designs - the Every Day Calendar, a habit tracker she funded on Kickstarter during recovery. In June 2019 she documented Truckla, converting a Tesla into a pickup truck with collaborators, and Tesla invited her to their official truck launch. She opened the Yetch Store in 2022, selling her designs: a jigsaw puzzle with a piece missing on purpose, a folding hanger, and other deliberate provocations that kept the comedy but dropped the shitty part.
