Shota Rustaveli

Shota Rustaveli lived sometime around 1160 to after 1220, during what's now called the Georgian Golden Age. He wrote The Knight in the Panther's Skin, an epic poem that became Georgia's national treasure and the cornerstone of its literary tradition. The work secured his place as the pre-eminent poet of his era and one of Georgian literature's greatest figures. Centuries later, the poem remains central to Georgian identity, and Rustaveli's name endures as a mononym — no title needed.
