American swimmer (1937–2005)
Shelley Isabel Mann was an American competition swimmer, who overcame childhood polio to win the first gold medal ever awarded in the women's 100-meter butterfly event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. She was also a member of the 1956 U.S. Olympic team that won the silver medal for the women's 4×100-meter freestyle relay.
