That shift led to his docu-series era: a 2017 reconciliation with his absent father, then splashy multi-part investigations of Jeffree Star, Jake Paul, and Tana Mongeau that racked up over 130 million views and made him the platform's resident long-form chronicler. By 2020 he had three channels with 4.5 billion views, 18 million subscribers on his main feed, and two New York Times bestsellers. In June that year, YouTube indefinitely demonetized all three channels and retailers pulled his books after old footage resurfaced showing comments about underage girls and zoophilia. He went silent for sixteen months, then returned in October 2021 to a much smaller stage.
