About this person
Born in Guadalajara in 1990, Sergio "Checo" Pérez started karting at six and climbed through junior formulae to win the 2007 British Formula 3 national title. He reached Formula One with Sauber in 2011 - disqualified from his debut in Australia for an illegal wing - then broke through in 2012 with three podiums, enough to land a McLaren seat alongside Jenson Button for 2013. The McLaren year yielded nothing; he spent the next seven seasons at Force India and its successor Racing Point, finally winning at Sakhir in 2020 after running dead last on lap one. Red Bull signed him in 2021 to partner Verstappen, and Pérez added five more wins across three years, finishing second in the 2023 championship. After going winless in 2024, he and Red Bull split by mutual agreement. He returned with Cadillac in 2026, contracted through at least 2027.
