I intend to return to Morocco, while keeping my personal and professional ties in Egypt, where my artistic activities will take place. That’s my decision. It is final.
I’m not pretentious and I hate pride. For me, any artistic work that pleases my audience is enough to make me happy.

Samira Abdelrazak Bensaïd was born 10 January 1958 and crossed into Egypt young enough that the move became permanent. By 1980 she stood alone: Morocco's first and still only entrant at Eurovision. The contest was a moment, but Egypt became the work - more than fifty years singing in Egyptian Arabic, not as a guest but as a fixture. She took the name Samira Said and made it shorthand for a style, a register, a claim that belonging is something you sing into being.
