One of seven deacons martyred in Rome under Emperor Valerian's 258 persecution of Christians, dying alongside Pope Sixtus II in a sweep that targeted the church's leadership.
About
Lawrence served as a deacon in Rome under Pope Sixtus II during a period when the empire's tolerance had shattered. In 258, Emperor Valerian ordered a coordinated persecution of Christians, and Lawrence was among seven deacons killed in the purge. He died on 10 August that year, part of a wave of executions meant to break the church's structure in the capital. The date of his death became his feast day, marking him as a martyr of the early persecutions.
