White won back-to-back Minnesota state championships in high school - one as a freshman at DeLaSalle in 2006, another as a senior at Hopkins in 2009 when he was named Mr. Basketball and led an undefeated 31-0 season. At Iowa State he dominated every statistical category for the 2011-12 Cyclones, enough to go first round to Houston in 2012. His generalized anxiety disorder, triggered by flying, sparked public clashes with the Rockets over mental health and travel; he never played a game for them, managed just three with Sacramento in 2014, then bounced through the G League before landing with the London Lightning in Canada, where he won a championship and MVP from 2016 to 2018. In 2020 he organized Black Lives Matter protests, then pivoted hard into Republican politics in 2022 with a failed primary run for Congress. He lost the 2024 Senate race to Amy Klobuchar, tried again in 2026 and finished third - campaigns marked by embrace of conspiracy theories and a populist edge that hasn't yet found traction at the ballot box.
