About this person

Rohit Gurunath Sharma was born 30 April 1987 and came up through Mumbai cricket as a right-handed top-order batter. He was in the squad that took the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and the Champions Trophy in 2013, then built a career as an opener that redrew what was possible in limited-overs cricket: three ODI double-centuries, seven World Cup hundreds, five centuries in the single 2019 tournament that earned him ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year. He captained Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles between 2013 and 2020, the most by any skipper, then took over the national side and delivered the 2018 and 2023 Asia Cups, the 2024 T20 World Cup, and the 2025 Champions Trophy. India named him Khel Ratna in 2020 and Padma Shri in 2026. He remains the only man to play every edition of the T20 World Cup from 2007 through 2024.
