Christian crusader
Roger of Salerno was regent of the Principality of Antioch from 1112 to 1119. He acquired the regency on the death of his predecessor, Tancred, as the actual prince, Bohemond II, was still a child. Although his power was conditional on Bohemond ever arriving in Antioch to rule, he adopted the title prince during his lifetime, and was referred to as such by most chroniclers. There seems to have been a party in Antioch that sought Bohemond's accession instead.
