Continental Army general from North Carolina
Robert Howe was an American military officer who served in the American Revolutionary War. The descendant of a prominent North Carolinian family, he was one of five general officers, and the only major general, in the Continental Army from North Carolina. Howe also played a role in the colonial and state governments of North Carolina, serving in the legislative bodies of both.
