About this person

Robert Andrew Berdella Jr. was born January 31, 1949. By the mid-1980s he had developed what he described as fantasies modeled on the movie The Collector - which led to his second nickname - and began acting on them in Kansas City, Missouri. Starting in 1984, he kidnapped young men and subjected them to captivity lasting up to six weeks, during which he raped and tortured them before killing them. He extensively dissected the bodies and disposed of them in garbage bags. In August 1988 he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Larry Pearson and received life without parole. Four months later he pleaded guilty to one more first-degree murder and four counts of second-degree murder. He died of a heart attack at Missouri State Penitentiary on October 8, 1992.
