Richard Gary Bowness is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player who is the head coach for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the second round, 26th overall, by the Atlanta Flames in the 1975 NHL amateur draft, and played in the NHL for the Flames, Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, and original Winnipeg Jets. As a coach, Bowness has also served as head coach for the original Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, Ottawa Senators, New York Islanders, Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars, and the current Winnipeg Jets. He likewise held the position of assistant coach roles with the original Jets, Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Stars.
